Święto Dziękczynienia jest jednym z najważniejszych w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Obchodzi się je w czwarty czwartek listopada na pamiątkę pierwszych osadników kolonii Plymouth. Tego dnia rodziny gromadzą się przy wspólnym stole, aby podziękować za wszystkie dobrodziejstwa, jakich doświadczyli w mijającym roku.

The history of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the USA on the fourth Thursday of November and in Canada on the second Monday of October . First celebrations was on 8th 1565 in place which today is called Saint Augustine on Florida. Contrary to traditional scientific evidence it is believed that the first Thanksgiving Day was celebrated in Plymouth Colony in 1621. The pilgrims who came on Mayflower's board were members of English Separatist Church . The pilgrims sailed from England to Holland to escape from religious persecution. There they enjoyed greater tolerance but finally disenchanted with Dutch way of life , recognizing it as godless . When they were finding better life they negotiated with the London- based commercial finance company of a pilgrimage to America. The pilgrims landed in Plymouth in 11th December 1621. After the first winter to the beginning of the next autumn 46 of 102 people who were travelling on „Mayflower ship” died. Because the harvest in 1621 was abundant colonist decided they would celebrate with 91 Indians who helped them survived the first year . Today on this day families meet and eat dinner together and thank for a abundant harvest . Traditional food on this day is :
